Klara Djamila Kassman Soukkan, is a multidisciplinary, Stockholm based artist. Through textile methods like weaving, knitting and finger crocheting with hemp and discarded materials Kassman visualizes hierarchies and power structures, dilemmas and social issues that confront us in the societies we have constructed. With deep interest in the life of materials, she questions the dilemmas that confront us in the societies we have constructed and aim to decenter the human ego. With discarded materials and waste, both biological and plant based, her work takes various shapes through interactive weft performances, garments, sculpture and installations. Kassman's practice can be described as interdisciplinary, moving between crafts, art and fashion.

“We live in a time and place, where we have forgotten where we come from, becoming entangled in production chains and power structures. I believe that we need to oppose the construction of material death through connection and activation of materials in new ways.“
